On Thursday, Lucasz came to read us a story in Polish. He read a great story about Maja's favourite story character, Pippi Longstocking. We had a great discussion in Polish afterwards and Lukasz heard everyone's news - in Polish! It was so great to hear the natural chat in the children's mother language in the school and we all love the strong character of Pippi!
Wow! What an amazing day we had for World Book Day! Such an amazing effort everyone went to - we had superheroes, Vikings, traditional characters and so much more. There was great excitement all around the school as friends shared their inspiring books and tales. Lots of children brought in books in their mother language and read them for us, teaching us new words in different languages. Well done to all. Keep reading and keep loving your mother language! On Tuesday afternoon, Kamila read us a Grimm tale in Polish. It was a great tale about three brothers, the magic items they owned and what happened when they lost them.
Our very special Mother Language and Book Week has started!
We have lots of stories being read this week by parents in lots of languages - Polish, Lithuanian, Spanish, Catalan, English and Irish! The very important message is: Speaking with your child in your own language is really, really important! Today was a very special day in the history of Citywest ETNS. We had our very first Assembly. Two Junior Infant classes, Senior Infants and First Class got together for a little chat with Caitríona and then we said a nursery rhyme. Altogether, each class will have a chance to perform at least four different experiments during the course of this week. They are: 1. Lava Lamps, 2. Egg floating/sinking, 3. Dancing raisins, 4. Static Electricity. For more details on how each experiment is carried out; head over to our resident Science Expert, Maggie's class page.
Check out each class website to see more detail about the experiments they have been doing and how they have gotten on. Oh dear! Maggie noticed that her pegs, lollypop sticks, cubes and shapes were all mixed up! She needed us to help her sort them. First we talked about ways we could sort them such as by their shape, their colour or their size. We decided we would match them up by their colour. Each table had a different box to sort out. Look at what a good job we did. Maggie was very pleased with the great job we did. Maggie's class had a very important job to do this morning. We had to smile nicely and say "cheese" for our Class Photo. I bet we'll have fun looking back at this photo when we are in 6th Class! It was a big day in Junior Infants today. We used our scissors for the first time! We were very very careful and made sure to use them safely as they are very sharp. Can you see how we are concentrating? For our first time we did a great job. |
